Literature Text

I'll spread these battered wings and fly,
Never do or never die.
Could you really take a side?
Your every word a twisted lie.

You came and tore my world apart,
Turned upside down and broke my heart.
I should have seen it from the start,
Malignity your greatest art.

But I will spread my wings and fly,
I'll break free and touch the sky.
From the ashes I will rise,
A brilliant phoenix in disguise.
A spur of the moment poem about familial abuse. I don't usually share my writing with other people, but this one isn't too personal. Critique isn't desired; this poem was meant to be drabble-ish and imperfect.
